The Pentagon confirmed the transfer of the Patriot to Ukraine – media

First, the transition plan must be agreed upon by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, and then by US President Joe Biden.

The Department of Defense of the United States of America has confirmed its intention to send Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine. This was announced on Tuesday, December 13 on the Twitter microblog of Voice of America’s Pentagon correspondent, Karla Babb, citing an anonymous Pentagon source.

He also noted that the United States could officially announce this decision as early as this week.

A US defense official confirmed to the Voice of America that the Pentagon is preparing to send a battery of Patriot missiles to Ukraine to help defend the country from Russian missiles.

The Pentagon’s plan must be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and later signed by US President Joe Biden.

How many systems will be shipped is unknown.

The Patriot SAM is an advanced long-range air defense system that is highly effective in intercepting ballistic and cruise missiles. A standard Patriot battery includes a radar that detects and tracks targets, computers, power equipment, and a combat control station. Due to its range and height, air defenses have the potential to knock Russian missiles and aircraft away from their targets in Ukraine.

Recall that the Pentagon recently noted that the Russian Federation is building its nuclear arsenal. Experts estimate that Russia has the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the world, with around 6,000 warheads.
