Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that at this stage, Hungary had no other source of energy resources, other than the Russians.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said on the air of the American television channel CNN that Hungary was not ready to give up Russia’s gas and oil because it could not find an alternative.
According to the minister, 85% of gas and 65% of oil come to Hungary from Russia.
“Not just because we want to, we did not choose this situation. There are no alternative gas sources, alternative supply routes that will allow us to abandon Russia’s oil and gas in the coming years,” Szijjarto assured.
It was also reported that Hungary is trying to diversify supplies: it already has interconnectors in six of its seven neighboring countries.
Szijjarto recalled ExxonMobile’s plans to increase gas production in the Romanian part of the Black Sea shelf in the future, but so far he stressed that at this stage Hungary has no other source of energy resources other than the Russians.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said France did not need Russian gas and intended to advance sanctions against it.
It was also reported that Poland had imposed an embargo on coal from the Russian Federation.
