The Russian leadership is seriously committed to achieving at least some tactical victories in the Donbass, journalists said.
Valery Gerasimov, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, arrived at the temporarily occupied Ukrainian city of Izyum in the Kharkiv region. He will command the occupying forces in Donbass, the Defense Express reported.
Gerasimov is said to be at the command post of the RF Armed Forces in the Izyum region.
The publication states that Gerasimov’s position involves commanding operations on a strategic level, and not on operational-tactical. This may be good evidence that the Russian leadership is seriously committed to achieving at least some tactical success in the Donbass.
In addition, Gerasimov’s arrival at command field posts indicates that the appointment of the head of the Southern Military District, General Alexander Dvornikov, as commander of Russian troops in Ukraine did not improve the situation with coordination and control of units in the battlefield.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said the enemy was increasing the pace of the offensive. The Russian army had the effect of fire in almost all directions, but was most active in Slobozhansky and Donetsk.
