Foreign Ministers may adopt new restrictions against the aggressor country in the coming days, believes Josep Borrell.
The ninth package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation is currently under discussion. Success in its adoption will be achieved later – on Monday or Tuesday. This is what EU diplomat Josep Borrell said before the meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday, December 12.
“I thought this morning we could approve the start of work on sanctions, but this is not the case. Maybe by the end of the day,” he said, adding that perhaps it could be achieved on Tuesday.
He noted that foreign ministers of EU countries have different opinions about the new sanctions. Therefore, agreement still needs to be reached on some issues.
According to him, coordinating these issues is not an easy task.
It should be noted that the Council of the EU at the level of foreign ministers is planned on Monday to discuss the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and developments in Iran as central issues on the agenda, as well as to make new restrictions that move against Moscow and Tehran.
However, at a meeting of permanent representatives of EU countries, Hungary expressed disagreement with the planned new package of anti-Russian sanctions.
