The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke on the phone with US President Joe Biden. During the conversation, the Ukrainian leader took the initiative to convene an international peace summit. This was announced on Sunday, December 11, by the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
“Vladimir Zelensky noted that Ukraine is striving to achieve peace, and noted the importance of consolidating international efforts to achieve this goal. It is for this that during the G20 summit, the President of Ukraine will presented a formula for peace, which included ten critical steps, the implementation of which would stop war.
The President of Ukraine outlined the view of the Ukrainian side regarding further work in this important direction and initiated the meeting of the Global Peace Summit.
Zelensky thanked the American leader for the unprecedented defense and financial assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine.
“We also appreciate the assistance provided by the United States to restore Ukraine’s energy system. I hope for further deepening of cooperation in this area. I pointed out the importance of developing an effective air defense system for Ukraine,” the president said.
He noted that everything possible should be done to protect Ukraine’s civilian population and its critical infrastructure during the winter.
“Thank you for reaffirming your willingness to support Ukraine as long as necessary, as well as for the clear and consistent commitment of the United States,” the president added.
Also, during the conversation, Zelensky and US President Joe Biden agreed on positions before the G7 summit, in which Ukraine will participate.
“I am glad to feel during the conversation that our peace formula is seen positively. And this gives optimism. The faster the points of the formula are implemented, the stronger the security guarantees for Ukraine and all people in Europe,” Zelensky added.
It should be noted that more than 82 thousand citizens of Ukraine, along with their families, left for the United States as part of the Unity for Ukraine (U4U) program.
