Germany initially planned to sell the blankets at auction, but German representatives offered to transfer them to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Germany will send Ukraine 36,000 army blankets. In the past, they were put up for auction, as the German military did not need them. This was reported by the publication Welt am Sonntag.
Ukraine will receive 36,400 woolen blankets from Bundeswehr stocks as winter aid.
The blankets were originally given to Vebeg GmbH, a government trust company controlled by the Federal Ministry of Finance, to be sold at auction. However, Free Democratic MP Markus Faber criticized the intention to sell the blankets.
“It’s cold in Ukraine. Instead of selling blankets from Bundeswehr warehouses through Vebeg, we should make them available in Ukraine,” he stressed.
After criticizing the planned auction, Finance Minister Christian Lindner stopped the sale. The minister offered the blankets to the Ukrainian government, which accepted the offer.
The Federal Republic of Germany is preparing to transport the blankets, which are now stored at the Bundeswehr supply center in Blankenburg.
Recall that the German defense concern Rheinmetall will manufacture two Skynex anti-aircraft missile systems for Ukraine.
In addition, the German government published a new list of weapons that will be provided to Ukraine as part of military aid.
