Both countries will be accepted into the North Atlantic Alliance with open arms if they wish to join.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Finland and Sweden would be accepted into the Alliance with open arms if they apply for membership, The Guardian reports.
It is noted that Stoltenberg made such a statement at a joint briefing with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola in Brussels.
Metsola said that next week the next sanctions against the Russian Federation will be discussed in Strasbourg.
Remember that Finland will be applying for NATO membership in the coming weeks. This could happen in conjunction with Sweden’s application.
Meanwhile, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation previously stated that Finland’s possible entry into NATO would make it a target for Russia’s retaliatory measures.
