Ukrainian diplomats are working to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions in the world. Kyiv expects decisions from European partners that thwart Moscow’s attempts to evade sanctions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky expects the EU to take decisions that will prevent Russia from evading financial and energy sanctions. He said this in a speech on the evening of Thursday, December 8.
“We are actively working to support and strengthen the next steps of sanctions against Russia – European, American and other partners. The issue of the ninth EU sanctions package is in the works,” said Zelensky.
He also emphasized that other decisions are expected in Kyiv, especially regarding schemes for avoiding sanctions against the war, including financial and energy ones.
We remind you, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced the introduction of the ninth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In the new package of sanctions: restrictions against nearly 200 individuals and three Russian banks; new export methodlegal control, especially for dual-use goods; a ban on the broadcasting of four TV channels; measures against the energy and mining sectors of the Russian Federation; new restrictions on Russia’s access to drones, both directly and through potential suppliers, such as Iran.
It is also reported that Britain has prepared new sanctions against the Russian Federation. They are expected to be announced on Friday.
