Getting NASAMS from the Middle East to Ukraine is faster than making them in the US, which takes two years.
The United States of America, along with its allies, is working with countries in the Middle East to transfer some air defense systems of the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday, December 1, by the CEO of Raytheon Technologies, the manufacturer of these air defense systems, Greg Hayes, writes Politico.
In his opinion, it is possible to send advanced anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine within the next 3-6 months, then the United States will replace them in the Middle East with new NASAMS within the next 24 months, the head of the company. said.
“There are NASAMS deployed in the Middle East and some of our NATO allies and we (the US) are actually working with some Middle Eastern countries that are currently using NASAMS and trying to bring them to Ukraine,” Hayes said.
The agreement on the transfer of these air defense systems to Ukraine still needs to be approved by the administration of US President Joe Biden.
He did not name the countries in the Middle East that could supply NASAMS. According to the Agency for Security Cooperation (DSCA), referring to the publication, the buyers of these systems in the region are Oman and Qatar. Oman signed a contract with Raytheon in 2014 with delivery to NASAMS in 2016. In 2019, the US agreed to sell the air defense system to Qatar.
Remember, the Pentagon and the American company Raytheon Technologies signed a contract worth $1.2 billion for the purchase of the NASAMS air defense system for Ukraine.
