Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday called for the speedy integration of the legal systems of the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine, annexed in September last year, in an address to the participants of the X Congress of Judges of Russia.
“After the referendums and the fulfillment of the will of millions of people, Russia Four new regions were merged: Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson. It is planned to create federal courts in these territories,” the president addressed the congress delegates.
“The Supreme Court, along with other bodies of the legal community, has a lot of work to do to create new courts and integrate them into the Russian legal system as soon as possible,” he said.
According to the President Vladimir Putinthis is a huge job, connected not only with the selection of the composition of the courts, including judges and employees, but also with the construction of new headquarters and logistical support to ensure the work of the courts. .
“And this must be done as soon as possible so that the citizens living in these territories are guaranteed the constitutional right to legal protection. I am sure that they will be able to complete this task,” he added.
Annexations in September
In September last year, the pro-Russian leaders of these four Ukrainian regions officially appealed to the head of the Kremlin with a request to include these territories in the Russia after the referendums on annexation, which Kyiv and virtually the entire international community called a “farce”.
Vladimir Putin formalized the annexation by signing alliance treaties with Russia last September 30th.
