Ukraine became the third country after the US and Canada to send school experiments into space.
As part of the School Space Experiments Program (SSEP), the American SpaceX Dragon spacecraft sent mini-laboratories of Ukrainian schoolchildren to the ISS. This was announced by First Lady Elena Zelenskaya.
The rocket launch took place on Saturday, November 26 at Cape Canaveral in Florida, and the students of Odessa Scientific Lyceum of Richelieu and Kharkov Gymnasium No. 47 had the opportunity to observe this process, because they became the winners of the competition, because last year the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the program.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s wife also spoke about the difficulties the participants had to complete their projects despite the widespread war. For example, a teacher took an experiment from a destroyed classroom in Kharkiv so that students could complete the project and it would meet NASA’s requirements.
Parallel to the experiments on the ISS, the teams will conduct research in laboratories on Earth under the supervision of experts, as this is a mandatory part of the experiment.
It was noted that SSEP is a unique comprehensive program for the development of scientific and STEAM education, which aims to educate a new generation of scientists and inventors.
