Family Finds ‘Strange’ Snoring Noises are 5 Bears Hibernating Under the House –

In the slightly opposite Goldilocks scenario, a family in California discovered that five bears found exactly their home.

South Lake Tahoe residents heard “strange growls, snoring sounds” throughout the winter, but ignored the magical sounds because they were “in vain,” the BEAR League, a non-profit organization that focused on helping people. Living With Bears, posted on Facebook earlier this week. Neighbors even suggested they had something in mind.

But the sounds are very real and there is a logical explanation: Bears hibernate in space to crawl under the house.

When the bears – the mother and four cubs – about a year old – woke up, residents of the house “no longer denied that the bear was likely under the house,” the group wrote.

But even then they had no doubt that there were too many.

“Residents didn’t realize there were five bears in the house until we got there and told the bears to come out … and then we counted to five,” the company’s chief executive told HuffPost. Bear League Anne Bryant. “They thought it was a very strong bear.”

The BEAR League then called the “uninvited mother bear”, a process Bryant described as “territorial and horrible, which the bear thinks is no longer safe there.” He stressed that the volunteers never hurt the bears, although “sometimes we are disgusted with how they feel”.

After the mother woke up from the crawling space, she called the children again and they followed them.

The BEAR League noted on Facebook that three puppies are biological descendants of their mother, but one is an orphan puppy she “adopted” last year. Bear adoption is “pretty rare,” Bryant said, but it does happen. In this case, the car collided with Belik’s biological mother.

Once the Ursina family leaves the scan area, an “electrical barrier” is installed at the crawl space opening, so any bear that tries to enter will receive minimal shock. But Bryant added that prevention is the best protection against unwanted bear inhabitants.

“Every winter, 100 to 150 of our bears try to cool off under homes here in Tahoe,” he said. “The BEAR League is very busy moving bears from these creeping areas, usually a few bears a day.”

The creeping spaces have “cave -like” crevices that display a “vacation sign” for bears trying to spend the winter. But people can easily solve this problem by closing these openings.

“People really need to make sure the openings in their crawling space are closed and protected before bears enter … especially in the fall when they’re looking for hibernating nests,” he said.
