Thanks to the extension of the Black Sea “grain initiative” for another 120 days, tens of millions of people in the world have been saved from starvation. This was announced on Thursday, November 17, by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Our grain export initiative has been expanded, despite all the difficulties, despite various Russian manipulations. We will continue to export agricultural products through our ports of the Black Sea. This is a very concrete thing. Thanks to which the world sees the importance of Ukraine ,” said Zelensky.
According to him, since August 1, more than 450 ships with a total amount of food of 11 million tons have left the ports of Odessa. products.
“The geography is very wide: Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Yemen, Lebanon, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Turkey, as well as the countries of the European Union. Tens of millions people, mainly in African countries, saved from hunger, in particular, as part of the delivery of the UN food program from our ports,” Zelensky emphasized.
He noted that it is possible to reduce the tension in the global food market.
“And this means that food prices are significantly lower than they would be without our food exports,” Zelensky added.
The President thanked all the partners who worked hard to achieve this result, especially the United Nations and personally Secretary General António Guterres, as well as Turkey and personally President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The head of state also said that many countries have expressed their desire to join the initiative.
Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov announced the extension of the grain agreement. But according to him, the UN and Turkey remained the guarantors of the extension of the agreement.
It can be recalled that on October 29, the Russian Federation announced its withdrawal from the grain initiative, but on November 2 it continued its participation and began negotiations to extend the deal.
