This article states that members of the bloc consult if the security of one of them is threatened.
Ambassadors of NATO countries will hold an emergency meeting at the request of Poland based on Art. 4 charter of alliance. This was reported on Wednesday, November 16, by Reuters, citing two European diplomats.
According to Article 4 of NATO’s founding treaty, members can raise any issue of concern, especially related to the security of any member country.
One of the diplomats said the Alliance would “proceed with caution” and that he needed time to find out exactly how the incident happened.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he discussed the explosions in a village in Poland with Polish President Andrzej Duda. He expressed condolences over the loss of life, and also noted that the allies were holding close consultations.
Note that Poland is promising a military response to NATO if it turns out that the shelling of its territory, which the Russian Federation denies, was intentional.
To recall, the Polish media reported that two unidentified rockets fell near the village of Przewoduv, Lublin Voivodeship, on the border with Ukraine. They ended up in grain dryers. Two people died. Police, prosecutors and the military are on the scene.
