This year, Ukrainians have succeeded in the dark period and are fighting for a bright idea, the President said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky greeted Eastern Rite Christians on Easter. The head of state spoke to people from St. Sophia Cathedral on April 24.
“Sophia Cathedral is a shrine that survived despite enemy invasions and occupation. So now we are sure that not a single horde and not a single evil spirit will destroy us,” he said.
Zelensky stressed that this year the Ukrainians have succeeded in dark times and are fighting for a bright idea.
“On this bright day, me and most of us are not in bright clothing, but we are fighting for a bright idea. On the bright side. On our side is the truth, people, the Lord and the highest radiance in the sky. The power of the mediator of mankind – the Mother of God Oranta, ” – stressed the President.
The head of state also recalled the defenders of Ukraine on this bright day. It is the military, the National Guard, border guards, therodefense, intelligence, and the like. In addition, the head of state mentioned volunteers, doctors, firefighters and rescuers.
Separately, Zelensky recalled mothers who this year were expecting a son or daughter from the war and those who, unfortunately, did not wait for their child from the front.
He recalled that last year Ukrainians celebrated Easter at home because of the coronavirus, but this year the plague was completely different.
“This year we are once again celebrating the Resurrection of Christ in a different way than we are used to because of another virus. Because of a plague called war. Last year and the current threat were united by a thing – no one can beat Ukraine, “stressed the president.
The President mentioned that Easter is a celebration of the victory of life over death, good over evil and light over darkness. Therefore, victory in the war is certain for Ukraine, he stressed.
“At Easter, we ask God for great grace to fulfill our great dream – this is another beautiful day, a day when great peace will come to Ukraine. And with it – eternal unity and prosperity,” he said. by Zelensky.
Remember that Volyn was the first in Ukraine to encounter the Holy Fire. The fire was greeted by a delegation led by the Metropolitan of Lutsk and Volyn Mikhail on the Polish border.
Note that Ukrainians have been warned about the dangers of visiting the church at Easter. Russian troops could disperse churches during mass worship, so Ukrainians were advised to watch liturgy broadcasts from home if possible.
