German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that a diplomatic solution to the issue of ending the war in Ukraine is still impossible.
Aid to Ukraine must address three priorities: air defense, electricity, and refugees. This was announced on Friday, November 11, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in a discussion organized by the RND broadcaster.
The politician noted that, first of all, it is necessary to ensure the protection of Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks from the air.
“Secondly, the destroyed critical infrastructure must be quickly restored,” the chancellor continued.
The German Chancellor also considers it necessary for Europeans to prepare for the arrival of a new wave of refugees from the territory of Ukraine.
Speaking about the war, Scholz pointed out that Vladimir Putin did not start the war by making a short-term decision, but was preparing for the war for two years.
“Putin is just looking for an excuse to start a war against Ukraine,” added the German chancellor.
At the same time, he stressed that a diplomatic solution to the issue of ending the war in Ukraine is still impossible.
“We all want this war to end and peace to be possible. This is also the theme of all the conversations I have had with the Russian president so far,” he said.
Scholz emphasized that he opposes the ceasefire on Russia’s terms.
“First of all, Russia must realize that the idea of a dictatorial world will lead nowhere and that you can’t just run a felt-tip pen across the territory and say it’s mine,” he said.
The German chancellor recalled the talks he had with Putin in Moscow shortly before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The President of the Russian Federation asked Scholz that “there are no missiles in Ukraine that threaten Moscow” and that Ukraine should not join NATO, as well as the status of some regions in the east of Ukraine.
Earlier this week, it became known that Germany transferred a new batch of military aid to Ukraine. This includes additional missiles for the IRIS-T air defense system, reconnaissance UAVs, anti-drone sensors and electronic warfare equipment.
