Residents of Georgia are Europeans and should join the European family, the head of state believes.

Georgia is disappointed that Moldova and Ukraine have already received the status of a candidate member of the European Union, while Georgia is only a prospect. This was announced on Monday, November 7, by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.

“Georgia experienced a major failure in the process of granting EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. This failure is a signal to others that a fragile situation in society may emerge,” the president said.

The President stressed that the people of Georgia “are very European and have been for a long time where at some point they should join this European family.” At the same time, she urged “not to waste time.”

“Georgia needs a candidate,” she added.

Remember, the European Commission decided to review the reforms implemented by Georgia to grant the status of a candidate for EU membership in 2023 instead of December this year.

Earlier, the European Commission did not recommend granting the status of an EU candidate to Georgia. Because of this, a protest was organized in the center of Tbilisi – thousands of people gathered for actions in support of the European integration of Georgia under the slogan Home, to Europe.
