Refugees who have received temporary protection status in one of the EU states have the right to return to the EU.
Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan, who heads the EU Council, said on his return from Kyiv that Ukrainian refugees who were given temporary visas in the European Union and returned to Ukraine could return to the EU before winter. It was reported by Radio Prague International.
“If a person at that time left for Ukraine and lives there, having already received the status of temporary protection in one of the EU states, he has the right to return to the EU if the conditions do not allow him to stay in Ukraine during the winter,” Rakushan said.
According to him, it can be assumed that these people will return, and the number of refugees in the European Union can increase to five million.
He noted that the Czech Republic can accommodate a maximum of half a million people.
According to the minister, about 4.3 million refugees have arrived in the EU, but almost a fifth have returned to their homeland. About 20% returned from the Czech Republic, which issued more than 450,000 visas to Ukrainian refugees.
Recall that the European Commission has allocated 100 million euros to support refugees from Ukraine.
It was also reported that Bulgaria has indefinitely extended the accommodation program for Ukrainian refugees.
