Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the partial mobilization that began in Russia on September 21 has been completed.
Russia announced the end of mobilization. Allegedly, 300 thousand have been recruited and that is enough. In the future, they promise to recruit troops only by accepting volunteers and contractors. But the Russians, for some reason, do not really believe such statements of the authorities.
Shoigu finished
According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, 82,000 of those mobilized have already been sent to combat areas in Ukraine, the remaining 218 continue combat training in training areas.
Lawyers note that the partial mobilization in Russia was announced by Putin’s order and, accordingly, can only be completed by a similar order. But so far there has been no such order.
Nothing finished locally.
In St. Petersburg, the authorities said they had completed the “main tasks” for the mobilization.
“Petersburgers subject to conscription have been notified in full. The recruitment of personnel is over. The relevant work is ongoing,” said the city administration.
However, representatives of the Western Military District (ZVO) said that the mobilization in St. Petersburg continues. “The governor has no authority to stop him. It was announced by a presidential order and can only be stopped by a presidential order,” said the press service of the Western Military District.
The reality is really different
State Duma deputy Maxim Ivanov, who represents the Sverdlovsk region, appealed to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu about sending conscripts to the battle zone without proper training.
“There is a wave of appeals from wives and mothers about the fact that their mobilized husbands and children are sent without apparent combat training. The situation is unacceptable. What benefit can a untrained man, for example, at a checkpoint near Donetsk? Perhaps the smallest,” the deputy wrote on his Telegram channel.
Asked by a deputy, Ivanov said that in the first days of the mobilization, at least 86 people from the Sverdlovsk region were sent to Ukraine without undergoing the necessary training. He also noted that since the beginning of October, these people have been directly involved in the conflict, and since October 13, their family members have received notifications about the death of their loved ones. How many militants died in Ukraine, Ivanov did not specify.
In his appeal, the deputy asked the minister to look into the situation, take measures to prevent such incidents in the future, and also return the residents of the Sverdlovsk region who have already been sent to the front for military training.
The wife of a serviceman mobilized from Yekaterinburg told the BBC that her husband, along with other mobilized colleagues, ended up in the forest in the territory of the self-proclaimed “LPR” without food, equipment and any orders.
On September 26, the man was mobilized; he served in the military more than 20 years ago and is now 42 years old. On September 28, those mobilized were sent to Rostov-on-Don, and from there to one of the training grounds near Lugansk, where they stayed for a week. On October 6 they were thrown into the front line.
“They were told that they would study first, and then handle the second or third line of defense, but in fact they immediately found themselves at the front,” said Elena Saprunova.
Elena’s husband was assigned to the 35th motorized rifle brigade, the others mobilized from Yekaterinburg were assigned to the 55th motorized rifle brigade, they were trying to keep the front together in the self-proclaimed “LPR”.
For several weeks, the serviceman did not communicate, and on October 27 he reached his wife.
“He said that they were in some forest without any orders. The only officer with them was seriously wounded, Saprunova told the BBC. – They had no food, they were armed with old machine guns, and half of the equipment they destroyed in middle. They do not understand where they are, and when they try to retreat, they immediately find themselves under fire from themselves. According to his wife, there are many dead in this forest that are not removed.”
On October 27, together with the husband of another mobilized person, Elena sent appeals to the presidential administration and the military prosecutor’s office with a request to fix the current situation. He received a reply from the administration that his letter has been forwarded to the Ministry of Defense and will be considered there.
