The Children’s Ombudsman of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova, announced the “adoption” of a child brought to Russia from Mariupol.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has initiated before law enforcement agencies the opening of a criminal case against a Russian citizen Lvova-Belova, who announced the “adoption” of a child deported from in Mariupol.
“The transfer of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia and their further adoption by Russian citizens grossly violates the law of Ukraine, as well as the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Populations of Civilians in Time of War of 1949, which provides for the occupying state’s obligations not to change the civil status of children, and the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Foreign Ministry also called on the international community to strongly condemn the ongoing crimes committed by Russia and its officials against children in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
It will be remembered that the Children’s Ombudsman of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova, adopted a boy, who was illegally taken by the invaders from Mariupol. At the same time, he said that in total the Russians left the zone of “special military operations” up to two thousand orphans.
