The global market began to experience food shortages due to the war unleashed by the Russian Federation.
Russia blocked Ukrainian ports in the Black and Azov Seas, which significantly reduced Ukrainian exports, in particular, agricultural products. And this, in turn, has led to an increase in food prices in many countries around the world. This was announced on Thursday, April 21, by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky speaking at the World Bank.
He mentioned that rising food prices will be felt in 81 countries in the world and it will lead to famine for approximately 47 million people.
“Without Ukrainian wheat, corn, vegetable oil and other commodities, it will end not only in physical food shortages in many countries of Africa and Asia, but also in political instability and, possibly , a new migration crisis. People will find those responsible for this crisis, including leaving the square, “Zelensky said.
At the same time, he noted that the country’s authorities are doing everything possible to regulate exports.
“We have already started sowing the campaign this year as much as possible. But no one in the world can be sure that food security will be ensured as this war continues on our land,” he stressed.
He stressed that a cessation of war and liberation of Ukrainian territory from Russian occupiers was “the only reliable way to stop the development of the food crisis.”
Recall that the Russian Federation plans to export grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
Recall, the International Monetary Fund has already provided Ukraine with emergency financing in the amount of $ 1.4 billion, and also opened a special account that provides a safe way to further supply the country.
