The new American strategic stealth bomber B-21 Raider, created by Northrop Grumman Corporation, will be presented on December 2 at a plant in Palmdale, California. This was reported by the US Global Strike Command.
“The presentation of the B-21 Raider will be a historic moment for our air force and nation,” said Air Force Chief of Staff, General CQ Brown. “The last time we presented a new bomber was more than 30 years ago. .”
He assured that the B-21 Raider will have unique combat capabilities and will become the backbone of US strategic aviation. Its detailed details are strictly classified.
The first B-21 is scheduled to enter US Air Force operations in the mid-2020s. And its first test flight will be held next year.
There are currently five B-21 Raider bombers in the United States at one stage or another of assembly. Test flights were previously expected to begin before the end of this year. The reasons for the delay were not reported.
The aircraft is designed to replace the existing fleet of American strategic bombers B-1 Lancer, B-2 Spirit and B-52 Stratofortress, and in the future – to replace them. The US Air Force plans to receive at least 100 B-21 Raider aircraft worth $80 billion.
The first squadron of B-21 Raiders will be stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. These bombers will also be stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri and Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.
