International justice will help Russia today get rid of its imperial “dreams”, says Andrius Kubilius.
The creation of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine is important for Kyiv, the West and for Russia itself. This is what MEP Andrius Kubilius said at an international conference in Berlin about Russia’s crimes in Ukraine, Ukrinform reports on Saturday, October 22.
According to him, the creation of an international tribunal is the only way to bring the top leadership of Russia to justice for their war crimes in Ukraine.
International justice could have major implications for the future of Russia itself. In particular, the Nuremberg trials after World War II helped the Germans get rid of some of their “dreams”. Russia needs it now too, Kubilius believes.
“They should understand that dreams of restoring the empire and the like end in a total disaster for Russia itself,” he stressed.
The MEP recalled that the Nuremberg Tribunal began a few months after the surrender of Nazi Germany, and continued until October 18, 1946.
Therefore, the creation of the special tribunal should not be delayed, because “justice delayed is no justice,” he concluded.
Note that the Dutch parliament has already supported the proposal to create a special tribunal for Russia in The Hague.
