Israel has sided with Ukraine since the beginning of a full-scale Russian invasion, but must respect its national and defense interests.
Israel does not plan to supply weapons to Ukraine, and the transfer of the Iron Dome air defense system would be a “border crossing.” This is what Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said in an interview with NEWSru.co.il.
According to the prime minister, Israel has sided with Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion and was the first country to send a field hospital. His country also continued to provide humanitarian aid and offered to provide a civil warning system.
“Of course, we voted in the UN and condemned, absolutely unequivocally condemned both the attack itself and the massacre in Bucha,” Lapid said.
At the same time, as Lapid noted, the prime minister’s role is to consider national and defense interests.
“In this regard, very serious issues need to be resolved. I do not believe in simple answers to complex questions. Neither the Americans nor the British, who supply arms to Ukraine, sent their Air Force to bomb the Russian tank columns. Everyone considers their defense interests, and I do the same,” Lapid justified his decision.
When asked what is the problem with sending the Iron Dome air defense to Ukraine, the prime minister said that it would be the wrong “crossing the borders.”
“I will not go into details, but this policy seems correct to me. It does not cancel our obligations to support Ukraine and the principle of its territorial integrity,” added the politician.
Recall, earlier it was reported that Israel has again refused to provide weapons to Ukraine. In the country’s opposition, they say more strongly – Israel’s weapons will end up in Iran’s hands.
