According to Biden, the Unity for Ukraine program will allow Ukrainian refugees to migrate from Europe directly to the United States under an accelerated procedure.
“Today I am announcing the Unity for Ukraine program so that Ukrainians fleeing can go directly to the United States. This is a new humanitarian program that will complement other legal mechanisms for helping refugees. We will expedite this process so that “Ukrainians from Europe can migrate to the US, especially those with sponsors, or those with relatives here. It will speed up the procedure for receiving Ukrainian refugees,” he said.
The program will require Ukrainians wishing to enter the U.S. to have guarantees from a U.S. citizen or resettlement organizations and non-profit organizations.
To be eligible for the program, individuals will be required to undergo rigorous screening and security screening, including biographical and biometric screening, as well as immunizations and other public health requirements, including receipt of vaccination for of COVID-19. Ukrainians must also reside in Ukraine starting February 11.
