The company has suspended the issuance of licenses for comics to partners in Russia since the summer of this year.
American company Marvel has suspended the sale of licenses for its new comics in Russia. This was reported by the Russian portal about the Geek culture of the city with reference to the owners of comics shops.
It was noted that the publishing house sent letters to partners from the Russian Federation, in which it was stated that it had stopped selling and renewing licenses for comics.
The letter says Marvel is not revoking purchased licenses, so previously announced comics from Russian publishers will still go on sale. However, the company has suspended renewals and purchases of new licenses from the summer of 2022. That is, it is prohibited to print new editions of old comics or release new ones.
The source claims that Russian publishers assume Marvel will be asked to sell the full circulation of the comics in the fall. Otherwise, the company will ask to withdraw all comics from Russian stores. Thus, they can completely disappear on store shelves.
“As far as I understand, publishers will now try to release the maximum possible from purchased licenses (if there is enough paper) … But in the fall, an avalanche of new products, most likely, and the time will come for to consumers. to get their missed or no time to pick up, ” – said one of the owners of the Russian comic book store.
Remember that earlier in Russia, Paramount channels were turned off. Based on these cartoons SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Peppa Pig and others will no longer be aired on Russian screens.
