The average winter temperature is expected to be 1-2 degrees above the norm calculated for the period 1991-2020.
Ukrhydrometcenter analyzed the data of meteorological observations for several decades and found that in the last 30 years on the territory of Ukraine, the transfer of the average daily temperature by +8 degrees down (the beginning of heating season) even in the northern regions of Ukraine occurs in the third decade of October, and in other regions of Ukraine in early November and later. This was reported by the press service of the hydrometeorological center.
The average temperature of the winter season (especially in January and February) has increased by 2.0-2.5 degrees, and the duration of the winter season with temperatures below zero degrees has significantly decreased.
The total of negative temperatures during the winter is almost halved, and a large number of temperature records are recorded every winter.
The transition of the average daily spring temperature by +8 degrees above (the end of the heating season) occurs not in the middle, but in the first decade of April and earlier.
“Based on the above analysis, the following conclusions can be drawn about the upcoming winter of 2022-23: the average temperature of the winter season (December-February) is expected to be 1-2 degrees above the norm calculated for the period 1991 -2020; the probability of a long period of very cold weather with a minimum temperature of -25..-30 degrees in Ukraine is very low; short-term significant cooling lasting 1-5 days is more likely, when the minimum temperature at night will be -15…-20 degrees, in the northeast of the country up to – 26 degrees,” the message stated.
It is also argued that postponing the start of the heating season to a later date, and the end to an earlier one, is reasonable.
However, the winter in Ukraine will be difficult, most Ukrainians say that their household is almost or completely prepared for possible winter heating problems.
