Christmas services on December 25 will be held by decision of the rector and the community, if the faithful so desire.
The Orthodox Church of Ukraine was allowed this year to hold a Christmas service according to the New Julian calendar – December 25th. This was announced on Tuesday, October 18, on the OCU website and on the Church’s Facebook page.
Specifically, the message says that a meeting of the Holy Synod of the OCU has taken place. Here, among other things, it was decided that “On the possibility of holding a holy service in honor of the Nativity of Christ according to the New Julian calendar on December 25, 2022.”
“Predictable, especially due to the events of the war, the aggravation of calendar disputes in the public space; to study the real need of the church for the implementation of calendar changes in the near future, the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) decided:
Where there are pastoral circumstances for this and the desire of the faithful is confirmed, as an exception, to allow, by decision of the rector and the community, on December 25, 2022, to celebrate the service in the order of the feast of Birth of Christ.
After the services, the priests are asked to report to the Kyiv Metropolis how many people participated in them.
Recall that the national postal operator Ukrposhta has announced a competition to create a sketch of a Christmas postage stamp in 2023.
