The regional grouping of troops began to carry out tasks to protect the Union State of Russia and Belarus. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Belarus, Viktor Khrenin, BelTA reported on Monday, October 17.
“The regional grouping of troops and forces of Belarus and Russia began to deploy and carry out tasks for the armed defense of the Union State,” Khrenin said and called this grouping a complex organism of many parts.
“Now, based on the current situation, we are acting in stages, implementing individual measures aimed at the proactive readiness of the regional grouping to respond to emerging challenges and threats. We are confident that this will ensure security in entire perimeter of the borders of the Union State in the Eastern European region of collective security,” he added.
Khrenin assured that all the measures taken were “just a reaction to the actions” of the opponents, “the activities of this group are purely defensive.”
On the eve it became known that trains with the military of the Russian Federation began to arrive in Belarus, their number will reach nine thousand.
Belarus also announced the strengthening of the border with Ukraine. The “reinforced border detachments and maneuver groups” are being removed from there.
