An explosion occurred at a mine in Bartin in northern Turkey, killing 25 people. This was announced on Friday, October 14, by the Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, reports CNNTürk.
The publication clarified that 21 people were also injured. They were hospitalized, three of them with serious injuries.
Bartyn Governor Nurtach Arslan said there are 74 search and rescue teams on the scene. At 18.15 local time, there were 44 people at the level of 300 meters underground, five more – 50 meters below. Eight miners voluntarily exited.
According to the country’s Minister of Energy, Fatih Donmez, who arrived at the scene, a methane explosion was the initial cause of the accident. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said there were 110 people in the mine during the emergency, and 49 miners were in the area where the explosion occurred.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to visit the site of the mine explosion on Saturday. He will go to Bartın to coordinate the rescue work.
It was previously reported that in Krivoy Rog, all the miners stuck in the mines after the Russian missile strikes were lifted to the surface.
