14 days into the demonstrations, the group is demanding that the government stop issuing all new oil and gas licenses.
Two activists from the Just Stop Oil movement poured tomato soup over Van Gogh’s Sunflowers painting at the National Gallery in London. This was reported by Sky news.
They poured the contents of two cans of Heinz tomato soup into the famous 1888 painting, which cost £72.5m $39.7m.
The video footage shows two women with their hands pressed against the wall under the painting, and then one of them shouts: “What is more expensive? Art or life? Is it worth more than food? More is it worth more than justice?”
After the incident, the police arrested the two girls.
“Officers rushed to the scene at the National Gallery this morning after two Stop the Oil protesters doused the painting with a substance and then taped themselves to the wall. They were both arrested for criminal damage and trespassing,” he says. .
