America aims to prevent China from building up its armed forces and developing new and modern weapons.
The US plans to impose restrictions on the export of advanced semiconductors and equipment for the production of microcircuits. Thus, the United States intends to prevent American technology from being useful for China’s military power. On Saturday, October 8, The Wall Street Journal wrote.
The new rules will require US chipmakers to obtain a license from the Commerce Department to export certain chips used in advanced artificial intelligence computing and supercomputing, critical technologies for modern weapon system.
The introduced rules would also allow the US to block foreign chips made with American technology.
These restrictions are among the most widely affecting the industry.
“It’s about advanced computing capabilities based on American chips, software, tools and technology that fuel China’s military modernization, including the development of weapons of mass destruction,” the report said.
The United States believes that giving China and its military access to the most advanced chips and equipment for their production creates serious risks for national security.
It was previously reported that Washington in October intends to tighten restrictions on the export of semiconductors to China, effective from 2020.
