The Russian authorities were forced to pay attention to the defense of one direction at the expense of another, which increased the probability of Ukraine’s victory.
The Ukrainian counteroffensive, which began in the Kharkiv region, continues and is actively moving to the Luhansk region. This was announced by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report for 6 October.

It was noted that after a month of successful operations in the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian troops are moving to the western part of the Lugansk region.
“Russian forces failed to hold the banks of the Oskol and Seversky Donets rivers and use them as natural borders to prevent Ukrainian forces from entering the vulnerable areas of the Russian-occupied northeast of Ukraine,” analysts insist.
According to them, the terrain in the west of the Luhansk region is suitable for fast maneuverable combat operations which were effectively used by the Ukrainian forces in the eastern part of the Kharkiv region in early September.
In addition, there is no evidence that the Russian military has significantly strengthened itself in the west of the Luhansk region.
“Continued counter-offensives in the north and south of Ukraine are likely to force the Kremlin to prioritize the defense of one line of operations at the expense of the other, possibly increasing the likelihood of Ukrainian success on both lines,” end of ISW.
It will be recalled that on October 5, the head of the Luhansk OVA, Serhiy Gaidai, said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had begun the de-occupation of the region. The Ukrainian military controlled the first settlements – the villages of Grekovka and Makeevka.
