A more indifferent attitude to the war between Ukraine and Russia during the survey was shown by the youth of Slovakia.
A majority of Slovak citizens want Ukraine to win the war with Russia, while a third do not care how the war ends. This was confirmed by a study by the Slovak analytical center GLOBSEC, conducted together with the public opinion polling center Focus.
Sociologists found that 47% of Slovaks want Ukraine to win. At the same time, 19% wanted Russia to win, and about a third said they didn’t care.
Young people showed a more indifferent attitude towards the war between Ukraine and Russia: 33% of those aged 18-34, 23% of those aged 35-54 and 19% of those aged 55 and over chose the answer “I don’t care”.
Above all, voters of the right-wing radical party “Respublika” – 55% and SMER-SD of the former Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico – 36% want Russia’s victory in the war in Ukraine. The majority of voters of other parties leaned on the victory of Ukraine.
When the option “an agreement between the belligerents” was added to the poll, it was chosen by the majority – 60% of Slovaks. But even in this case, twice as many respondents preferred the success of Ukraine – 27%, than Russia – 10%.
It should be noted that in mid-September, a similar poll showed that the majority of Slovakia’s population would prefer Russia’s victory, rather than Ukraine’s, in the Russian-Ukrainian war. GLOBSEC analyst Dominika Gaidou suggested that a certain change in sentiment in favor of Ukraine could be caused by events on the front.
“In the summer, the situation in Ukraine looks more encouraging for the Russian side, which may lead some of the population to believe that Ukraine no longer has a chance to win. The successful counter-offensive in September, with significant gains on the territory of the Ukrainian side , these feelings may have changed,” – he explained.
Recall that the defense ministers of the countries of the Visegrad Group (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic) at a meeting on September 27 discussed additional support for Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation.
