The United States has begun joint exercises with South Korea on the east coast of the Korean Peninsula. This is the first exercise in five years. AP reports.
The exercise began a day after North Korea test-fired a short-range ballistic missile. An American aircraft carrier group and Korean ships are taking part in the exercise.
The four-day exercise is reportedly aimed at demonstrating the allies’ strong resolve to respond to North Korea’s provocations and improve their ability to conduct joint naval operations.
More than 20 ships of the US and South Korean navies will take part in the exercises, including the USS Ronald Reagan nuclear aircraft carrier, an American cruiser, South Korean and American destroyers, American and South Korean fighters and helicopters.
Recall that North Korea launched a ballistic missile in the direction of the Sea of Japan.
It was previously reported that North Korea denies the supply of weapons to the Russian Federation.
