Zelensky expressed gratitude to Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, his government and the entire Italian people for their continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the shelter and sensitivity to the temporarily displaced Ukrainians.
The President also mentioned Italy’s leading role in granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
“Despite local political issues, the situation in Ukraine remains very important for Italy,” Zelensky said.
He told his interlocutor about the state of affairs at the front and stressed that strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine is an important priority for Ukraine today.
Separately, the parties focused on the need to extend the pressure of sanctions on the Russian Federation.
Lorenzo Guerini conveyed greetings to Zelensky from the President, Prime Minister and people of Italy.
He said that he visited Irpin and Gostomel and saw with his own eyes the destruction caused by the Russians.
Lorenzo Guerini also expressed his admiration for the heroism of the Ukrainians, with which they defended them and other cities of their country.
Earlier in September, it became known that Italy had arrested 11 villas of Russian oligarch Vyacheslav Kantor on the island of Sardinia. The Council of Europe ordered the confiscation of his assets in April.
