Almost the entire Kharkiv region was liberated from the Russian invaders; about 150,000 Ukrainians lived under occupation for more than five months.

The found sites of mass graves in Izyum may not be the last gruesome finds on the territory of the settlement. This was announced on Tuesday, September 20, by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets on the air of the informational telethon.

“I am sure that these are not the only graves. As far as I know, we are currently approaching the figure of 200 exhumed corpses, only one cemetery, the previous figure was about 450. There are seven cemeteries in Izyum,” stressed Faucets.

He said that according to local residents, the occupiers gave the bodies of the tortured and dead people to their relatives with the request to bury them in different places.

“When I was in Izyum, I talked to local residents who were in the city during the occupation. They said that many people who died from Russian air bombs, from prosecution, were tortured to death in dungeons. The bodies were given to relatives and told to be buried in different places. There are seven such places in Izyum. We started this work with only one cemetery. So I’m sure there will be new discoveries and they will be tragic and terrible,” Lubinets emphasized.

The Ombudsman added that in Izyum during the temporary occupation there was a total system of intimidation and fear among the local population.

“A total system of intimidation, a search for a permanent one of our pro-Ukrainian people, former law enforcement officers. That is, anyone who just walks down the street can end up in a dungeon and they knock out he signed a document that he was a Ukrainian spy. Locals say “many of our residents never came back, we never saw them and don’t know what happened to them,” Lubinets said.

He noted that now there is an arrangement of all crimes to punish the Russian military.

“Each body is taken, our law enforcement officers work with each other. There are hundreds of representatives of the National Police, there is a separate brigade of the prosecutor’s office, separate representatives of the Office of the Prosecutor General. In as far as I know, foreign experts are helping us. It is very important for us that every fact of a crime committed by Russian servicemen, is recorded. Then it will become part of the International Criminal Tribunal,” the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights emphasized .

Recall that after the de-occupation of Izyum of the Kharkiv region, the graves of people in the city were discovered. The Ministry of Reintegration reported that in Izyum, as part of an operation to find the dead, the exhumation of corpses in mass grave sites began. According to reports, the death toll in Izyum may exceed the number of victims in Bucha.
