Protests erupted in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old girl who was detained by a police vice for “wrongly” wearing a hijab.
The death of a girl for improperly wearing a hijab led to protests in Iran that did not subside for several days. This was reported by IranWire on Tuesday, September 20.
The publication says that 22-year-old Mahsa Amini came to Tehran from Iranian Kurdistan to visit relatives. On September 13, when the girl, along with her brother Kiarash, got off the subway, she was detained by the morality police for “wrongly” wearing the hijab. The brother is promised to release Mahsa after “re-education”, but Kiarash decides not to leave his brother and goes to the police station afterwards. There he found several dozen relatives of the same imprisoned girls. They started knocking on the doors of the police station, but they were scattered with batons. After a while, the women ran out there, shouting that someone had been killed.
As it happened, Amini suffered at the hands of the police. He was taken to the hospital with a head injury. The girl died at the hospital. Doctors interviewed by IranWire, who followed what was happening to the girl, suggested that she suffered a fracture at the base of the skull, which could have been caused by a strong blow to the head.
His death shook the nation. After the death was reported, people began to gather at the hospital, protesting not only against police violence, but also against the very possibility of detaining women for their “wrong” appearance.

Protests continue in the country. Several cities in West Azerbaijan and Kurdistan provinces declared a general strike. At the same time, security forces are brutally repressing the protests. They use against the demonstrators not only special equipment, but also military weapons. There are dead and wounded.

Two more died in the city of Divandarreh, and a fifth person died in Degolon. However, the number of victims may increase.
Iranian celebrities, athletes and politicians said Amini’s death should finally be a turning point and called for the closure of the vice police.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi ordered the Interior Ministry to investigate and determine the cause of Amini’s death. On Sunday, he called the girl’s family to express his condolences, according to state media.
It will be remembered that in the west of Iran, the police used tear gas to disperse a protest rally that took place after the funeral of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.
