Nuclear testing in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea resumed after a five -year hiatus.
North Korea has announced a successful test that will “significantly improve the country’s tactical nuclear capability.” On Sunday, April 17, the BBC reports, citing information from the official news agency KCNA.
“A new type of tactical guided weapon is of great importance for dramatically improving the firepower of advanced long-range artillery units and increasing the effectiveness of tactical nuclear weapons,” the DPRK said.
The Air Force said the South Korean military had confirmed it was about to launch two missiles, likely short-range, launched from the north into the sea on April 16 evening.
Experts believe this is a sign that North Korea plans to test compact nuclear weapons – that is, tactical nuclear weapons – in the near future.
The new tests will be seen in response to the joint US-South Korean military exercise beginning April 18 and lasting nine days.
It will be recalled that on Saturday, April 16, North Korea fired two projectiles into the Sea of Japan.
Earlier, North Korea tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile. His flight lasted more than 70 minutes, he covered almost 1.1 thousand km. During the flight, the rocket rose to a height of 6 thousand km.
