During the counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured hundreds of invaders, but it was not enough.
Since the beginning of the general invasion, Russia has captured more prisoners of war than Ukraine. This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Reuters, published on Saturday, September 17.
“I will tell you honestly, the Russians have more of our prisoners than we have Russian military or mercenaries working for the Russian Federation, terrorists, etc. And therefore our task – it is set – will replenish this fund,” he admitted.
At the same time, the head of state appealed to Russian soldiers with an appeal to surrender.
“I appealed to the Russian military: it is right if they are captured. We treat them according to the Geneva Conventions as prisoners of war. Our task is to have more of them. Our task is to return ourselves,” stressed by Zelensky.
The President also emphasized that the exchange fund of Ukraine was significantly replenished as a result of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region. According to him, we are talking about hundreds of captured Russian soldiers.
Recall that earlier the Ukrainian leader said that he would allow the export of Russian ammonia through Ukraine only in exchange for the release of prisoners of war in Ukraine.
