The destruction of Mariupol’s defenders could lead to the cessation of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with representatives of the Ukrainian media, published on Saturday, April 16.
“The destruction of all our guys in Mariupol – what they are doing now – can put an end to any format of negotiations. I think that this is their big delusion if they really say that they want to end the war,” the head of said the state.
He added that the increased aggression on the part of the Russian Federation and the commission of Russia’s war crimes, including against the civilian population, reduces the possibilities for any negotiations.
At the same time, Zelensky stressed that contacts are necessary to protect the state and end the war. At the same time, the president noted, the issue of resolving the status of the occupied territories of Donbass and Crimea remains open, because Ukraine and Russia have a different understanding of the ownership of these territories.
As for the final document on the negotiations, Zelensky informed that Russia wants an agreement on all issues, but not all countries participating in the consultations are willing to sit with the Russian Federation at the same table.
“Russia wants everything to be in one document. And people say: they saw what happened in Bucha, things are changing … And they want to have any agreements with Russia little by little. At the same time its, they want to have agreements with Ukraine, “said the Ukrainian leader.
As reported, Zelensky admitted that two agreements could result from the peace talks between Kiev and Moscow: on security guarantees for Ukraine and an agreement directly between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
