We are talking about 100 thousand tons of coal in September, which is now critically needed by Polish partners.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed to speed up the reconstruction of the power transmission line from the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant to the Polish Rzeszow and complete it by December 8. This was said on Saturday, September 10, in the President’s speech at night.
“During the development of agreements yesterday with the Prime Minister of Poland Morawiecki, I held, as I promised him, a meeting in support of our Polish brothers this fall and winter, our energy cooperation with Poland, Zelensky said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian leader said that the supply of electricity to Poland will be possible “on the condition that Ukraine maintains normal control over the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.”
In addition, the president noted that he instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to immediately send 100,000 tons of thermal coal to Poland.
In this regard, the head of the Ukrainian government on the Telegram channel noted that the work on the reconstruction of the power transmission line from the Khmelnytsky NPP is being carried out in an accelerated mode.
“We plan to finish before December 14, but thanks to the acceleration of work, we can complete a week earlier. This will allow us to export up to 1,000 MW in addition to Poland. For our part, we ask Poland to help expand the export quota within the framework of ENTSO-E,” he said.
In addition, Shmyhal added, Ukraine is also ready to consider opening quotas for coal exports to Poland.
“On behalf of the President of Ukraine, at the request of the Polish side, Ukraine is ready to consider the possibility of opening quotas for the export of coal to Poland. We are talking about 100,000 tons in September , which is now critically needed by our Polish partners,” he wrote.
Shmihal pointed out that coal reserves in warehouses of Ukrainian power plants are almost 2 million tons, which is 2.5 times more than a year ago.
“Therefore, we are ready to lend a shoulder of support to our Polish friends,” he stressed.
It is known that Poland turned to Ukraine with a request for electricity supply.
Remember that the European Commission urges EU countries to actively purchase electricity from Ukraine, as it is in the interest of both Ukraine and the European Union.
