Ukraine demands from the occupiers to provide a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from the territories around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Vereshchuk, the press service of the department reports.
“The situation around the largest nuclear power plant in Europe continues to be tense due to the ongoing shelling by the Russian army. In particular, the shelling caused a fire and a disconnection from the network of the last power unit. Civilians want from the surrounding communities to evacuate as soon as possible,” said Vereshchuk.
In this regard, Ukraine asks the occupiers to provide a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of women, children, and the elderly. Vereshchuk noted that the Russian Federation officially refused to provide such corridors.
“Ukraine will not stop trying to help its citizens go to safe places,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
He also said that over the past month, more than 60 thousand citizens have been evacuated from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye and Kharkiv regions, most of whom are women, children, people with limited mobility and the elderly. “And this process continues every day,” said Vereshchuk.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is preparing measures for the mandatory evacuation of citizens from Kharkiv, Zaporozhye and Nikolaev regions.
Vereshchuk called on the residents of the temporarily occupied regions in the south of Ukraine, and especially Kherson and Zaporozhye, to evacuate as quickly as possible so that the Armed Forces can liberate these territories without endangering the population of civilian
