The crisis facing Europe may provide the potential for a significant step forward.
Belgium can expect 5-10 “difficult winters” due to the abandonment of fossil fuels, but at the same time, it can jump the country 20 years into the future. This was announced on Sunday, September 4, by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, writes Nieuwsblad.
“We have five to ten tough winters ahead of us, but we can also jump ahead 20 years by switching from fossil fuels despite the odds,” said De Croo.

De Croo advocated a cap on energy prices. However, according to him, such a decision should be made at the level of the European Union. And while there is no restriction, temporary measures need to be taken for both citizens and businesses.
“We cannot allow companies to go bankrupt because of overdue accounts,” added the Belgian prime minister.
De Croo added that executives at two major banks have offered the option of lowering mortgage payments in the winter months so people can pay their electricity bills.
Recall that earlier the Russian gas company Gazprom announced a complete stop of pumping gas through the Nord Stream pipeline due to a detected malfunction at the only Portovaya compressor station, which continues to operate.
