Melnik’s battery, which shared the story, opposed the Russian pilots for more than six months in the Kharkov region.
One of the Ukrainian Buk M1 missile batteries destroyed the Russian plane without firing a single shot. Its commander, Hero of Ukraine Yaroslav Melnyk said about this in an interview with the ArmiyaInform agency of the Ministry of Defense.
“We shot down the plane without firing a single missile. We found the target. We turned on the illumination radar. At that time, the sound of messages about radar exposure sounded in the cockpit of the Russian driver. He realized that he turned from a hunter to a target. Probably, it shocked the pilot so much that he immediately ejected. The plane crashed,” the military said.
The Melnik battery fought Russian pilots for more than six months in the Kharkov region. During this period, the Ukrainian Buk shot down 28 air targets, including 11 combat aircraft, two helicopters, two cruise missiles and 13 drones.
It was previously reported that Ukraine’s air defenses are down from 50 to 70 percent of Russian missiles.
In today’s summary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is said that in the absence of high-precision weapons, the enemy began to use outdated anti-aircraft guided missiles of the S-300 system more often. More than 500 such missiles were fired across the territory of Ukraine, some of which did not reach the target. The invaders were armed with several thousand of these missiles, but most of them were unusable.
