Azerbaijan plans to double the export of natural gas to Europe, President Ilham Aliyev said, speaking at the Ambrosetti forum in the Italian city of Cernobbio. This was announced on Saturday, September 2, by his press service.
The capacity of TAP is 10 billion cubic meters. Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan plans to increase the capacity of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline to 32 billion cubic meters.
“For this, important steps must be taken – political decisions, technical measures and, of course, investments. Because the possibilities of different segments of the Southern Gas Corridor are different,” said Aliyev.
He emphasized that the demand for Azerbaijani gas is very high.
“We see that the issue of natural gas is one of the most pressing issues on the agenda of Europeans. I can say that since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, we have received official requests from more than 10 country to increase gas exports or start exporting,” the President said. Azerbaijan.
Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan’s proven gas reserves amount to 2.6 trillion cubic meters.
TANAP is part of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project from Baku to southern Italy. The gas pipeline pumps gas from Azerbaijan to Georgia and Turkey to the Greek border and connects to the Trans Adriatic Gas Pipeline.
In Europe, Azerbaijani gas is currently bought by Italy, Greece and Bulgaria.
Recall that the Russian gas company Gazprom has announced a complete stop to pumping gas through the Nord Stream pipeline due to a fault at the only Portovaya compressor station that continues to operate.
