Belgium reports first death from monkeypox

Belgium recorded the first death of a patient from monkeypox, the third Europeaccording to a weekly outbreak report run by the Belgian public health institute Sciensano.

Europe and the United States are at the center of a global outbreak with 50,496 cases and 16 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.WHO).

This entity activated the highest level of alert on July 24th, classifying monkeypox as a public health emergency of international concern, along with COVID-19.

In Belgium, as elsewhere, cases were concentrated among men who have sex with men.
