Personal penalties include a ban on entry into the EU and an asset freeze. They started on September 1.
EU authorities have expanded the list of personal sanctions against citizens of the Russian Federation because of a full-scale war against Ukraine. The corresponding decision on September 1 was published in the Official Journal of the EU. There are three other people on this list.
The European Union remains steadfast in its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine…Given the gravity of the situation, the Council of the EU considers three individuals responsible for actions that harm or threaten the integrity of territory, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine shall be added to the list of individuals, organizations and bodies to which restrictive measures are applied.
Specifically, the list of penalties includes:
-
representatives of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alla Polyakova and Anton Tkachev;
-
member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Russian senator and businessman Valery Ponomarev.
Personal penalties include a ban on entry into the EU and an asset freeze. They take effect immediately upon publication on Thursday, September 1, immediately upon publication.
As Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine clarified, the list of EU sanctions already includes about 100 organizations and more than a thousand people, including politicians, propagandists (so-called representatives of media), and leaders of large companies.
As you know, today the EU is discussing the eighth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in response to the war against Ukraine. The Baltic States propose to include new restrictions on the SWIFT system, trade and energy restrictions, as well as the expansion of personal sanctions.
