For negotiations to continue, the Russian Federation must stop attempts to annex Ukrainian territories.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said that several factors are needed to start peace talks with Russia. He said this in a speech at the Ambrosetti Economic Forum.
“The main question is whether there is a moment of negotiation now. It does not exist now, and has not existed for many years before. The Russian aggression did not start yesterday, the war has been going on for eight years. Therefore, the Russia’s desire to solve issues not by war and not by killing should be shown. At the moment, he wants to decide everything by force,” said Zelensky.
According to him, in order to continue negotiations, the Russian Federation must stop attempts to occupy the territories of Ukraine. Another important point is the desire for peace.
As Zelensky noted, the Russians must feel that they are guilty of this war, of their choice, they are to blame for their silence. According to the president, citizens of the Russian Federation need to be aware that there is no other alternative when Russian troops leave abroad.
Earlier, the Office of the President said that negotiations with Russia to end the war were not useful, as any temporary truce would mean continued aggression from the Russian Federation in the future.
Recall that Ukraine currently rules out the possibility of negotiations with Russia, except for the meeting of the presidents, but the Kremlin does not agree to the negotiations of the heads of state.
