Health authorities in the province of Tucumán (northern Argentina) have ordered preventive isolation for seven days from Therapeutic light sanatoriumlocated in the provincial capital, where six cases of bilateral pneumonia of unknown origin were identified, officials said.
Tucuman Health Minister Luis Medina Ruiz assured this Wednesday that “no new cases have been registered” so they still remain registered: one patient died, four were hospitalized with respiratory support and one in home isolation with mild symptoms.
“We want to reassure the population, as the situation is under control. Patients are hospitalized, isolated and there is strict control by our teams in agreement with the hospitals and sanatoriums where they are hospitalized,” the minister said at a press conference.
Exclude COVID-19
Epidemiological studies conducted so far have ruled out numerous bacterial and viral pathogens, including COVID-19influenza (both influenza A and B) or hantavirus.
For this reason, the health authorities Tucuman collected samples were sent to Malbran Institutelocated in the city of Buenos Aires and they hope to have results “before the weekend”.
“We continue to investigate the environment as we do not want to rule out any etiology. What these patients have in common is severe respiratory symptoms with bilateral pneumonia, with images very similar to covid, but this is ruled out.” – Medina said.
Director of the Sanatorium Luz Medica, Alexander Lemboin turn, repeated calls for “calm” and clarified that research on this outbreak of bilateral pneumonia began more than a week ago.
“Until now, the control of viruses and bacteria has been negative. This situation arose eight days ago and there were no other cases (…). The paranoia that has arisen in society has nothing to do with the current situation”, The person responsible for the sanatorium was sentenced.
